Texas Deceptive Trade Practices - Consumer Protection Law - DTPA

The Deceptive Trade Practice Act, or DTPA, protects consumers from deceptive or unscrupulous business practices, and although the law has seen significant changes since its inception in 1973, it is still an important tool for consumers who feel they have been wronged. If a business or salesperson uses false statements, exaggerations or misleading advertising to gain your business, he or she is violating the DTPA. Other violations of this act include claiming a product or service will do something it cannot do and taking advantage of a consumer's lack of knowledge or language comprehension during a business transaction.
