Product liability claim filed against ladder company in Galveston

Defective products can cause severe personal injury and even death when components fail. Manufacturers are responsible for ensuring that their materials and processes meet all required safety regulations and do not pose an undue hazard to consumers. When people are injured because of a faulty product, they have grounds to file a product liability claim.

Earlier in August, the district court in Galveston received a lawsuit against a ladder manufacturer. The man who filed the claim was injured in 2010 when a ladder made by the company gave way, causing him to fall and suffer severe injuries. The plaintiff alleges that the incident occurred while he was trying to repair the roof of a Galveston building.

The claim revolves around the materials and processes used by Louisville Ladder Inc. to construct the metal ladder. Allegedly, the metals used to make the product were not of the proper mixture or were incorrectly treated, making the ladder "defective and unreasonably dangerous."

Injuries sustained in a serious ladder accident can have lifelong repercussions. Reports indicate that the man's injuries included paralysis, and that almost certainly means he was unable to work following the incident. Also, paralysis generally requires major medical treatment and occupational therapy, and that means high medical bills.

Companies are and should be held responsible for the quality of their goods, and manufacturers who use defective materials are in violation of consumer protection regulations. Texans who believe they have been injured because of a dangerous product should be aware of their rights under current product liability laws.
