Dangerous baby clothes recalled after sales at major retailers

It goes without saying, but small children are especially vulnerable to injury resulting from defective products. Manufacturers and distributors have an obligation to ensure that products meant for babies are safe, but too often marketed items pose a threat to small children's health.

Parents of small children in the Galveston area need to be aware of the dangerous onesies recently recalled by The William Carter Company. The footed garments were sold in OshKosh B'Gosh, Target and Wal-Mart stores starting in December 2012 and ending in January 2013.

Parents can look inside the neck area of their child's onesies to see if the national recall applies. Roughly 218,000 Sleep N' Play child garments were sold or set to be sold by retailers, and the garments have the labels for Child of Mine, Baby B'gosh and Just One You printed inside.

The particular risk is that the zipper of the onesies will become detached, and children or their playmates could end up choking. The products were made for newborns and children up to nine months old.

Children of that age obviously grow quickly, and it's possible that some parents have already started outfitting their kids in larger sizes. That means parents who shop in resale stores or who received baby clothes from a family member or a friend should also keep an eye out for these dangerous garments.
