Hyundai announces recall for some Genesis models

Those who live in the Galveston, Texas area might be interested in learning about a recent recall notice concerning the Hyundai Genesis. The company announced that it is recalling its cars from model years 2009 through 2012 because of issues with brakes. Those who own Genesis models built from April 1, 2008 through March 16, 2012 might expect to be notified by U.S. mail starting in November 2013.

Medicine manufacturer recalls antibacterial drug

Galveston residents who take antibacterial injections may be interested to learn that one such product is being recalled by the manufacturer. B. Braun Medical Inc. is recalling a single lot of Cefepime for Injection USP and Dextrose Injection USP because it contains visible particulates.

Dangerous product concern may shut down chicken processor

In a case that may be cautionary for Texas meat plants, the U.S. Department of Agriculture is threatening to shutter three chicken processing plants run by Foster Farms in California. This was after salmonella allegedly made the chicken a dangerous product that sickened almost 300 people in 17 states. Foster Farms had reportedly not responded to a letter sent by USDA officials regarding high levels of the salmonella Heidelberg bacteria at the plants. The USDA said it would withhold inspections if Foster Farms did not respond by Oct. 10, which would effectively close the processing facilities.

Wrongful death lawsuit against producers of 'Texas'

On Aug. 12, five members of the musical "Texas," produced by the Texas Panhandle Heritage Foundation, were killed in a car accident. The car, driven by a 20-year-old, allegedly failed to yield and pulled onto Highway 287 in the path of a tractor-trailer just north of Dumas. A blood test showed the driver had an alcohol level of .165 percent, which is more than twice the legal limit in the state of Texas, as well as traces of marijuana.

Number of deaths due to medical mistakes

People in Texas might be alarmed to hear that according to recent estimates released by the Journal of Patient Safety, between 210,000 and 440,000 patients die every year due to medical errors that were preventable. If the newest research is really the case, then medical mistakes would be the third-leading cause of death among people, behind cancer and heart disease.
