Hyundai announces recall for some Genesis models

Those who live in the Galveston, Texas area might be interested in learning about a recent recall notice concerning the Hyundai Genesis. The company announced that it is recalling its cars from model years 2009 through 2012 because of issues with brakes. Those who own Genesis models built from April 1, 2008 through March 16, 2012 might expect to be notified by U.S. mail starting in November 2013.

The nation's auto safety products liability watchdog, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), received several complaints from Hyundai drivers who reported poor brake function in their Genesis models. One driver reported striking a car that had been stopped, while another had to use the vehicle's emergency brake to stop, which sent it into a spin. Although no one reported any injuries, many of the complaints pointed toward the possibility of a faulty anti-lock brake computer module.

Hyundai decided to enact a recall after it received an investigation notice from the NHTSA. A spokesperson for the company stated that the brake fluid does not include a corrosion inhibitor in the specified models, which may cause brake failure. In addition to adding a different brake fluid to the recalled models, dealers will also inspect the electronic brake control modules to see if they need to be replaced. Dealers will pick up owners' vehicles and replace them with loaners until the repairs are made.

Consumers may assume that the cars and other products they buy have been tested for safety. Sometimes, properly tested products, including motor vehicles, might still end up being faulty and may cause serious or fatal injuries to end users. Such individuals might wish to consider litigation as a viable option.
