Toyota launches massive recall

Texas Toyota owners may be interested in knowing about a recent vehicle recall that affects about 2.1 million Toyota cars, including some Prius, Rav4, Tacoma and Lexus vehicles. The recall has to do with a software defect that can result in complications including the vehicle's sudden stopping. The current software settings can cause thermal stress in vehicle transistors. Drivers would be alerted to the stress by warning lights, but the vehicles may, in some cases, lose power and stop. When this issue occurs during normal operation of the vehicles, it may result in a car accident.

Many of the vehicles affected are Prius vehicles from 2010 to 2014. North America is recalling 713,000, Japan is recalling 997,000, and Europe is recalling 130,000. The problems can be solved by bringing the vehicle to a dealer who can update the software to prevent the possibility of a dangerous malfunction. There were no reports of injury stemming from the reported software error.

Toyota also is recalling 260,000 other U.S. vehicles, including 2012 Rav4s, 2012 and 2013 Tacomas, and 2012 and 2013 Lexus RX 350s. These vehicles require a software update to correct a circuitry issue that can cause vehicle stability control, anti-lock braking and traction control to shut off. Toyota has noted that in the event of such a shutdown, brakes would still be functional.

While there was not information regarding any injuries related to this issue, individuals who are injured due to this malfunction or some other manufacturing error may be able to take legal action to pursue compensation that may cover the cost of medical care and wages lost while in recovery. A lawyer familiar with car accident cases may be able to help those victims pursue personal injury lawsuits against the car manufacturer in civil court.
