Man facing DUI charges after fatal Texas accident

Police have detained a Texas man after a fatal crash that resulted in the death of a 54-year-old woman on April 27. The incident occurred near Lake Conroe on Texas 105 at about 1 a.m. when a 27-year-old man in a Dodge Ram ran a red light and struck a 2014 Mitsubishi Montero Sport carrying four people.

Sources say that the Mitsubishi was waiting at a traffic light at Texas 105 and Navajo Drive when an eastbound truck rear-ended the vehicle at a high rate of speed. The force of the impact shoved the Mitsubishi off of the shoulder of the road, causing it to roll over. The Dodge driver then reportedly left the scene of the crash.

Officials pronounced the 54-year-old woman dead at the scene of the accident. Paramedics took the 18-year-old female driver and two male passengers to Conroe Regional Medical Center. They were later released after receiving treatment.

The 27-year-old man was later detained and taken to a hospital for treatment of unknown injuries before he was booked in the Montgomery County Jail. He was charged with three counts of failing to stop and render aid, intoxication manslaughter and two counts of aggravated assault involving DWI.

Families of victims who were killed in car accidents due to drunk drivers may be interested in consulting with a personal injury attorney about filing a wrongful death lawsuit. Through this suit, the family could be compensated for some of the expenses they incurred such as medical and funeral costs. In this case, the driver and the two other passengers in the Mitsubishi may also file a personal injury suit to hold the 27-year-old or his insurance company liable for the damages they also suffered.
