Two-car crash leaves one dead, one in jail

A 49-year-old woman in Texas was killed in a car crash near the Hobby Airport on May 25. The woman was driving north on I-45 at around 5:10 a.m. when her Ford Taurus was hit by a black Saab. The driver of the Saab had been heading north on the Gulf Freeway in another lane. Houston police have charged the driver of the Saab with intoxicated manslaughter.

A spokesperson for the Houston police said that the driver of the Saab, a 35-year-old woman, swerved into the other lane and crushed the right side of the Taurus. The 49-year-old victim died at the scene. The Harris County morgue received the body of the woman so that it could perform an autopsy.

The northbound lanes of I-45 had to be closed for six hours following the accident. Authorities completed their investigation and reopened the freeway at around 11:00 a.m. that Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. The news source did not mention the suspect's blood alcohol level or the testing equipment used to measure it.

Attorneys who handle wrongful death claims help family members of fatal crash victims receive the damages they are entitled to from the drivers responsible. In some instances, victims may spend several days in the hospital before finally succumbing to their injuries. Family members in these cases may be forced to shoulder large costs for the medical treatment of the victims. A wrongful death lawsuit would seek compensation for the medical expenses incurred by the family in that instance, as well as restitution for funeral and burial expenses.
