What recourse is there for woman injured in Galveston rollover?

We're sure that there have been some studies done on why the horror of a car accident tends to make the news. We don't know what the results might be. We speculate that one explanation may be found in the reaction others likely experience when they see such crashes -- "There but for the grace of God."

Another might have more to do with self-interest. If the accident occurred on a major thoroughfare and resulted in a major traffic jam, a lot of people might have been directly or indirectly affected, leading to general public interest in the event.

What may not get too much consideration among the passersby and others further from the scene are questions of what it all means to victims of such a wreck. Too often, the crash was the result of someone else's negligence and someone winds up killed or suffering injuries that have negative long-term consequences -- loss of income, huge medical bills, and more.

But these are issues that need careful attention and are typically not something that the victim is in any position to deal with. That's why it's always advisable to get help from an experienced personal injury attorney. It's a means by which victims can press to be sure those responsible for a collision are held properly accountable.

This may be something that is on the mind of one woman in the Texas City area after an accident today. Authorities say she was driving south on Interstate 45 this morning when she was forced to take evasive action to avoid hitting a truck hauling a boat. Officials say the truck driver had made an illegal lane change.

When the woman tried to dodge the situation, she reportedly lost control and her Toyota SUV flipped on its side. Police say she escaped life-threatening injuries but is now hospitalized. Two dogs she had with her got through the ordeal unharmed. The trucker received a ticket.

Insurance may cover some of the expenses this woman now faces. But she may also have other avenues of recourse. She might be able to seek compensation from the truck driver. If he is a commercial hauler, the company he works for might be liable. A claim might even be possible against the maker of the SUV. These are things an attorney would be able to assess.
