3 dead in head-on crash

A two-vehicle crash that occurred in Texas on April 5 left three people dead. Authorities stated that the collision took place on Ranch Road 12 just about two miles south of Hugo Road in Hays County.

At about 11 a.m., a brown Dodge pickup carrying four people was driving east when the driver attempted to pass another vehicle in a no passing zone. The pickup collided head-on with a westbound Toyota Camry. A teenager who was riding in the pickup truck was killed in the crash. The two occupants of the Camry, a 79-year-old woman and a 58-year-old man, were both pronounced dead at the scene.

The three remaining occupants from the pickup were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment of unknown injuries. Ranch Road 12 was closed for a short period following the accident. It was not known if authorities intended to file charges against the driver of the pickup truck.

If a driver fails to follow the rules of the road and causes a fatal accident as a result, the surviving family members of a person who was killed may suffer financial losses in addition to the grief over the loss of a loved one in this manner. This can be especially true if the decedent was the breadwinner or otherwise contributed to the household's finances. If it can be proven that another driver's negligence or recklessness was the cause of the crash, an attorney for the family might suggest that a wrongful death lawsuit be filed against such motorist seeking compensation for funeral and burial expenses, loss of contribution and other applicable amounts.
