Lower speed limits linked to reduced pedestrian fatalities

It may come as no surprise to Texas residents that pedestrians are likely to be seriously injured or killed when they are struck by a fast moving vehicle, but research conducted by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety reveals that older pedestrians are particularly vulnerable. The AAA researchers used federal accident data compiled between 1994 and 1998, and they discovered that a 70-year-old pedestrian is as likely to be killed by a car traveling at 35 mph as a 30-year-old is when struck by a vehicle traveling at 45 mph.

Multiple deaths reported after bus crash

The driver of a charter bus lost control of the vehicle and caused an accident that left eight dead and more than 40 people injured. It took place on May 14 just south of the Webb/Dimmit county line on Highway 83, and the bus was headed to Eagle Valley from San Juan in Texas. Of those who died, seven died at the scene of the crash while one more person died while at the hospital.

Auto insurance industry may be troubled by self-driving cars

The state of Texas requires that all vehicles in operation on the road must be insured in case of an accident. The automobile insurance industry has been around for decades, but now it faces a new world in which it will not be able to function and profit as it once had.

Auto-pedestrian accident statistics and safety tips

Many Texas residents enjoy walking rather than driving or taking a bus. While using sidewalks and crosswalks, it's important that pedestrians use caution around cars, trucks and motorcycles. Pedestrians are the most vulnerable people on the road, and around 430 pedestrians are treated at the emergency room every day for traffic accident injuries.

Motorcycle safety myths to ignore

Whether a Texas resident is new to riding or has many years on a motorcycle, rider safety should be a top priority. However, there are certain myths about rider clothing or bike accessories that may make it harder to keep users safe. For instance, many people believe that bikers wear leather only because it looks cool. In reality, leather offers padding and protection while riding.

What parents should be worried about on prom night

If your teenager is excited about going to the prom, chances are that they are not alone. For many teens, the prom is going to be the best night of their lives. In preparing for such an epic night, they may be worried about what they will wear, if they can afford it, where they may have dinner and if they can stay out late enough to enjoy the after party.

Trucks involved in fewer fatalities but more injury accidents

Texas motorists may be pleased to see statistics from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Association showing that the number of trucks involved in fatal accidents around the country dropped between 2013 and 2014. Although the reasons for the decline remain a cause for speculation, trucking industry experts have suggested ways in which these safety gains could be retained and expanded upon.
