Tractor-trailer head-on collision in Texas kills 3

Accident investigators in Texas are trying to determine what occurred in the moments leading up to a head-on collision between two semi-tractor trailers in Rockwall County that claimed the lives of three men on June 29. A representative of the Rockwall County Sheriff's Office said that investigators had yet to determine which driver was responsible and what could have caused the crash. The accident took place on Interstate 30 between Fate and Royce City at approximately 5:00 a.m.

According to police, the fatal accidents occurred when the driver of a westbound semi-tractor trailer veered to the left and struck an adjacent car. The truck then crossed the median and entered into the path of eastbound traffic, where it struck an oncoming semi head-on. The reason for the abrupt change of direction is still being investigated.

The drivers of the semi-tractor trailers and the westbound car that was struck were all pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical services personnel. The accident scattered a large amount of debris across the roadway, and the eastbound lanes of Interstate 30 were closed to traffic between Farm-to-Market Road 35 and Farm-to-Market Road 2642 for most of the day. Accident investigators say that cables designed to prevent vehicles crossing into the path of oncoming traffic were not strong enough to prevent the collisions.

While the cause of the crash may not be clear, collisions of this kind are often caused by fatigued or distracted drivers that overcompensate when they realize that they may be about to crash. Those killed in accidents caused by negligent behavior often leave their dependent family members in a financially precarious position. Personal injury attorneys may help such families seek compensation for their lost income as well as expenses like funeral costs and medical bills.
