Alleged drunk driving accident in Texas kills woman

Houston Police Department officers reported that a woman was killed in an accident on Aug. 14 involving an allegedly intoxicated driver. The accident happened at 3 a.m. on South Gessner.

According to police, a 25-year-old man was driving a Toyota sedan on South Gessner towards Westheimer. As he approached Westheimer, the man reportedly lost control of his vehicle, hitting a sprinkler system before colliding with a shopping center sign located on the opposite side of the road.

The man had two women who were passengers in the vehicle at the time. While the man and the front-seat passenger were okay following the accident, the 27-year-old woman riding in the back seat was killed. Police report that she was thrown from the vehicle, and she was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by first responders. The man was asked to submit to field sobriety tests. Police stated that he failed the tests and was then arrested for intoxication manslaughter. Sources do not indicate if he is still in jail or if he has posted bond.

When a person is killed in an accident caused by a drunk driver, the surviving family members are often left with financial difficulties in addition to the grief over the sudden loss of a loved one. In addition to funeral and burial expenses, the financial contribution that the decedent made to household expenses will somehow have to be replaced. A personal injury attorney can be of assistance in filing a wrongful death lawsuit seeking appropriate damages from the at-fault motorist.
