1 dead, 1 injured in truck crash

On Jan. 14, a car crash involving a semi truck that occurred in Texas caused the death of a woman and left her 16-year-old son with serious injuries. The crash took place on TC 158 several miles east of Midland.

Authorities stated that the semi truck was traveling at unsafe speeds at about 12.19 a.m. for the wet road conditions, causing the vehicle to hydroplane. It crossed into the oncoming lanes where it collided with a 2008 Mazda CX9 as the driver was unable to maneuver out of the way. The collision caused the trailer to become detached. It landed across the westbound lanes while the semi truck came to rest in a ditch on the side of the road. The woman who was driving the Mazda was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The son, who was a passenger in that vehicle, suffered injuries that were described as "incapacitating".

People who are injured in a truck accident often suffer injuries that could prevent them from being able to live the life that they lived before. If there is evidence that the accident was caused by truck driver negligence, an attorney representing an injured victim might find it advisable to seek appropriate compensation through a lawsuit filed against the driver as well as the trucking company.

If the accident resulted in a fatality, then a wrongful death lawsuit might be appropriate. Although there are times when inclement weather makes collisions unavoidable, motorists still owe a duty of care to others who are on the road, and part of this duty is to proceed cautiously in accordance with the prevailing conditions.
