1 dead, 6 injured in 2-vehicle accident on the freeway

One person was killed and six people suffered injuries after a two-vehicle accident occurred in Texas on Jan. 14. Authorities stated that the crash occurred on the 45 North Freeway in Houston at around 1:30 a.m.

Authorities stated that seven women who were in their late teens to early 20s were traveling in a Toyota Rav 4. An SUV suddenly swerved into their vehicle after leaving the freeway and traveling through the grass. The collision caused a woman who was sitting in the rear passenger seat to die upon impact. The other six women were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of their injuries. The man who was driving the SUV was also taken to another hospital. He was reportedly in stable condition.

The accident caused the freeway to be shut down for several hours before it was reopened during the morning hours. The police stated that they believed that the man was under the influence of either drugs or alcohol when he caused the accident. They also said that intoxication manslaughter charges were pending.

If a person suffers an injury in a car accident that was caused by a drunk driver, a personal injury attorney may be able to help. A lawyer may assist with filing a claim against the insurance company responsible for providing damages. The attorney may be able to determine how much compensation the injured person may potentially be eligible to receive and what damages they can claim. Eligible damages may include medical cost, lost income and pain and suffering. If the insurance company refuses to settle for an appropriate amount, the lawyer may represent the injured person if the case goes to trial.
